High-Speed Tubular Stranders
Rotor-tube machines for strand and rope production where high rotational speed, compact footprint and fast product changeover are priorities.

Wironex selects the machine family from product geometry, required lay, bobbin size, tension window and production speed.

Our tubular range is benchmarked against the machine envelope used by leading European steel-wire-rope equipment manufacturers.
Final configuration depends on the material, number of bobbins, lay length and dynamic loading. Special sizes can be engineered outside the standard range.
| Bobbin flange diameter | Approx. Ø250 – 800 mm standard tubular family |
|---|---|
| Bobbin count | Typically 6 – 48 bobbins depending on tube and reel size |
| Single wire diameter | Approx. Ø0.3 – 7.0 mm depending on machine size |
| Finished rope / strand diameter | Approx. Ø4.5 – 47 mm depending on configuration |
| Maximum rotor speed | Up to approx. 2,200 rpm on small-bobbin versions; speed reduces with reel size and rotating mass |
| Typical 630 mm class | Up to approx. 900–1,000 rpm depending on bobbin count, product and process conditions |
| Tube bearings | Encircling / ring-bearing or project-specific rotor support architecture |
| Lubrication | Centralized automatic lubrication with bearing-temperature monitoring |
Tube sections are dynamically balanced and supported to minimize vibration and power loss at high rotational speed.
Main-bearing lubrication and temperature can be monitored continuously with machine stop logic for abnormal operating conditions.
Mechanical brake, low-wear brake rope/chain or motorized closed-loop tension systems can be selected according to product sensitivity.
Cradle movement and abnormal oscillation can be monitored to protect the rotating system and the product.
Wire-break and product-presence monitoring can stop the line before secondary damage occurs.
Selected tubular sections can be configured for tandem operation to build higher-count constructions in one coordinated line.
Planetary architecture is selected where product geometry requires controlled wire or strand orientation during rotation.
Planetary machines can be configured from relatively small wire bobbins to very large cable and armouring reels.
| Pay-off / bobbin flange | Project range can extend from approx. Ø500 mm to Ø4,000 mm for cable-class applications |
|---|---|
| Bobbin tension | Mechanical braking, open-loop motorized braking with load-cell feedback, or fully closed-loop tension control |
| Back-twist | Fixed, planetary or controlled back-twist architecture according to product |
| Applications | Steel strands, wire rope, armouring, OPGW, conductors and selected cable constructions |
| Loading | Pintle, shaftless, side-loading or trolley-based bobbin handling options |
| Drive | Individual AC drives with synchronized line control |
High-capacity cage frames with belt-drive options, constant-tension bobbin brakes and side-loader or platform loading systems.
High-tensile aerodynamic bows with automatic bobbin-tension compensation and cradle safety monitoring.
Compact high-output architecture for smaller strand constructions where double-twist kinematics provide a productivity advantage.
Available for selected cable, armouring, screening and specialty-product applications.
Roller, die or project-specific compaction units can be incorporated where strand geometry requires controlled cross-section reduction.
Adjustable preformer systems can be integrated ahead of closing to stabilize rope geometry and residual stress.
The pay-off, preformer, closing point, traction system and take-up must be dynamically coordinated with the strander.
Multi-groove dual-capstan systems for stable traction with reduced product slip and controlled rope tension.
Available where product geometry or traction requirement makes a belt/caterpillar solution preferable to capstans.
Non-contact speed and length measurement can be integrated for process synchronization and production records.
Take-up drives can operate under torque or closed-loop tension control to maintain stable product tension over changing reel diameter.
Shaft, pintle and shaftless take-up concepts can be configured for large industrial reels and high package mass.
Electronic or mechanical traversing is synchronized to product diameter and reel geometry for stable winding.
The rotating machine, haul-off and take-up are engineered as one inertial system. Normal stopping, emergency stopping and loss-of-power conditions require coordinated drive and brake logic.
| Main drives | AC motors with vector / regenerative drive technology according to machine size |
|---|---|
| Normal stop | Coordinated ramp-down maintaining product tension and synchronization |
| Emergency stop | Risk-assessment-based controlled or fastest-safe stopping strategy |
| Power failure | UPS-supported control and regenerative / dynamic braking options can be integrated to prevent uncontrolled line collapse |
| Mechanical brakes | Fail-safe holding / stopping brakes sized from rotating inertia and machine duty |
| Safety monitoring | Guard interlocks, overspeed, bearing temperature, lubrication, vibration/cradle monitoring and wire-break inputs as applicable |
